The creative team a bytetalent is always looking for ways to partner was creative team members and we were eager to try something new when we st out to design our new logo. We reached out to friends and colleagues about how they approached design and what resources they used when they needed creative elements for their projects.
One colleague recommended the site 99Designs.com so we decided to check it out. The site pairs those in need with creative design services to skilled designers from around the world. It doesn’t mater if you are designing a logo, business cards, a website, coffee mugs or t-shirts, they can accommodate a wide range of projects.
The way it works is you register and create a project which is run like a contest. You can decide what you want done, give a description of the work and share your ideas as input, including sharing images of what you like and what you don’t. The contests have some other options such as elevating the priority, guaranteeing the contest winners will receive the cash prize, etc.
Once the contest starts, the fun begins, designers, start submitting design samples for your review. You can choose to make these designs visible to all or just to you. You can assign a star rating to each design submitted and in the case of public designs, everyone can see which ones you like the most. As the end date of the contest approaches, more designs are submitted and based on what the designers see you rating highly they will try to create something more in line with you color and style preferences. On each design submitted you can provide feedback, which the designers really appreciate. You can click on the image and leave very specific feedback on changes you would like to see or things you like about the design.
Once the contest ends, you have a few days to select the winner and award the prize. We had a great time working with the Designers and made a few new contacts that we will leverage on future client projects.
